The Opportunity Institute is a non-profit organization that promotes social mobility and equity by improving outcomes from early childhood through early career. The work of The Opportunity Institute cuts across issue silos to address the complex barriers to social mobility at critical junctures in people’s lives. We focus broadly on educational opportunities, beginning with infant and toddler development and continuing to PreK through grade 12 schooling, higher education completion, pathways out of incarceration, and into early career and family support. We are advancing pragmatic, evidence-based solutions that will combat inequality and build stronger, more equitable ladders to success. Our projects include Partners for Each and Every Child, Renewing Communities, Science of Learning and Development, and The Mathematics of Opportunity.
The Opportunity Institute, Division of Development, is looking for an undergraduate student or recent graduate to work directly with the Vice President for Strategy and Development, to maintain and build relationships with funders, to advance the mission of equity and excellence from early childhood through early career. The core program areas that will be supported by robust fundraising efforts are early childhood, pre-k through 12, opportunity and Justice, and Workforce Development.
The ideal candidate will have a background and interest in Communications, Public Relations, and or Business. Understanding of Video Production, Graphic Design and Public Policy is a plus.
The Opportunity Institute has its headquarters in Berkeley, California, and a policy team in Washington, DC. This internship is based in Washington, DC. While there will be some flexibility with working hours and working locations, interns will be expected to align their availability with the normal working hours of our DC offices (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm ET). We are looking for a commitment of 15-20 hours per week.
To apply for the internship, please forward a resume and cover letter to Sophie Green at email@example.com, and include “OI Strategy/Development Internship (Spring 2018)” as the subject.
