Policy and Communications Intern

Washington DC

Center Road Solutions is seeking two part-time or full-time policy and communications interns to assist our federal government relations activities. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to provide client/Congressional facing services and materials to advance nonprofit policy in health and school security. The position is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to the federal government relations and policymaking process.

Clients include nonprofits such as Sandy Hook Promise, National Eating Disorders Association and Harvard University’s STRIPED.

Job Responsibilities: The policy and communications interns, who are based at our Washington, DC office in NoMa, report to our Senior Director and Director of Government Relations, and are responsible for the following:

  • Attending Congressional markups, briefings, and coalition meetings, providing synthesized summaries of the discussion topics for clients
  • Researching federal policy, academic research, and legislation
  • Assisting in project and event management including hosting Congressional Briefings and Advocacy Fly-in Days
  • Advocating with Congressional staff and partners to support new federal legislation
  • Assisting with communications materials such as infographics and social media posting

Qualifications: We’re seeking candidates who excel at multitasking, are results oriented, are detailed oriented, and have strong customer service skills. You must have:

  • 1-2 years experience in a customer service/facing related position (i.e. restaurant industry, retail, etc.)
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, including error-free written products
  • Track record of in-depth research in either academic research, policy, or legislation
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred, but Not Required:

  • Capitol Hill experience
  • Experience with basic graphic design software (i.e. Canva, Adobe Spark) or other platforms such as Westlaw
  • Enrolled in graduate school


  • Start Date: January 7, 2019; End Date: May 3, 2019 (may be negotiable)


  • Undergraduate Students - Academic credit with opportunity for end-of-term performance bonus
  • Graduate Students - Paid Monthly Stipend
